Why should you come to the Knitwear Finishing Techniques workshop?

You might have knitted a garment and it didn’t turn out the right size or even shape. Maybe you have several “works in progress” that just need finishing and you’d rather cast-on a new sweater than finish one that is already knitted. Maybe you knit beautifully but are disappointed with your finished garments. You might just want to “polish” your finishing skills. Whatever the reason, I’ll teach you techniques that you will be happy to use to so you can be proud to wear or gift your finished garments.

You’ll have refreshments all day, as well as delicious home-baked cake in the afternoon (lunch is not provided at Hope & Elvis).

How will you learn?

I’ll demonstrate techniques, both to groups and individuals. The first few times that you try a new technique, I’ll talk you through it while you do it. You’ll knit a couple of small samples which will include increasing and decreasing neatly and short-row shaping for the shoulders.

After lunch (you can bring your own pack lunch or buy goodies from the amazing Welbeck farm shop), the fun really begins! You’ll join the shoulder seam using a clever cast-off method, sew a seam using mattress stitch and pick up stitches to knit a buttonhole band. You will finish the workshop eager to try these techniques on your current project!

What will you learn?

You’ll learn to:

  • Knit and use a tension square.
  • Make and use different selvedges.
  • Work mirrored increases & decreases.
  • Work short-row shaping for shoulders & the three needle cast-off.
  • Block your knitting.
  • Sew seams on knitwear using mattress stitch.
  • Pick up stitches and knit button bands & buttonholes.

You will leave the Finishing Techniques workshop with your knitted sample and instructions for the techniques covered. You’ll be inspired to finish those projects, knowing that you now have the tools to make them look great!

When does it take place?

10:00 – 16:00, Saturday 1 June 2019.
