Knitting course in June 2018
How to Knit Lace short course
Let me tell you a bit about my lace knitting short course that I’m running in June 2018.
Why come to this lace knitting short course?
Maybe you’ve never tried lace knitting or you’ve tried to knit lace and struggled. Or, you might have struggled to follow written instructions or charts for lace knitting. You might have already done the How to Knit for Improvers short course with me and want to move on. As long as you are confident with the basic stitches (knit and purl) and can follow a simple pattern, then you are ready for How to Knit Lace. Whatever your reason, you’ll have so much fun trying different stitch patterns. And after the course you’ll have lots of ideas for new lace projects.
I’ll also provide delicious homemade biscuits or cake and a variety of hot drinks. And if we’re lucky, the Being Knitterly barista (Mr BK), will be around to make some rather nice coffee!
How will you learn?
I’ll demonstrate each technique required for knitting lace, both to groups and individuals. The first few times that you try a new technique, I’ll talk you through the process as you do it. When you’re learning each lace stitch pattern you’ll repeat it several times to make a small sample. You’ll also be given a handout with photographs, charts and written instructions for each stitch. Practise makes perfect, so a bit of practice between each class will help too.
You’ll leave with lots of small lace stitch samples, starting with those using paired single increases and decreases and building up to patterns with different numbers of stitches in a row.
What will you learn?
You’ll learn to:
- Make single and double increases and decreases.
- Knit a variety of lace stitches.
- Understand lace charts as well as follow written instructions.
In the first class you’ll start by learning how to work single increases and decreases. By the end of this class you’ll have knitted eyelets as well as eyelet stitch patterns. And I’ll help you to understand both written and charted instructions, since it’s really best when you can use both together.
In the second class you’ll knit a some faggoting stitch patterns and edgings. You’ll use everything that you learnt in the first class to knit these and you’ll realise that they are really not that difficult!
In the third class you’ll knit learn to make paired single increases and decreases as well as double increases and decreases. You’ll use these to knit some samples of lace stitch patterns keeping same the number of stitches on each row.
By the final class, you’ll be ready to knit more complex lace stitch patterns in which the number of stitches is not the same in each row.
During the lace knitting course you’ll knit many beautiful stitch samples instead of a project. This means that you get to try out more stitch patterns with me there to help you. You’ll love having made so many lacy samples by the end of the course. And you’ll have lots of ideas for your own projects!
When does it take place?
19:00 – 21:00, Tuesday evenings, 5, 12, 19 & 26 June 2018
