New knitting patterns: the Seed Heads Collection
Hat, cowl and gloves
The Knitter magazine has published the patterns for the Seed Heads collection comprising a hat, cowl and gloves.
Inspired by seed heads in my garden
I was inspired to create the stitch pattern for this collection by the seed heads on plants growing in my garden.
All three accessories in the this collection start with a twisted rib. Some of these ribs grow into the stems supporting the delicate seed heads. These undulate around each item on a background of reverse stocking stitch. You work the seed heads using yarn overs and decreases, which makes them more delicate than bobbles.
You work the hat, cowl and gloves in the round. Each glove is identical, with a thumb gusset and the seed heads pattern on both the palm and back of glove.
Yarn details
I used Devonia 4 ply from John Arbon Yarns who are based in Devon. This yarn is a lustrous blend of three British breeds (Exmoor Blueface, Bluefaced Leicester and Wensleydale), all sourced from Devon. There are 14 shades available in both 4 ply and DK weight yarns.
You can knit the hat, cowl and gloves from two 100 g skeins.
